The ultimate mountain running shoe just keeps getting better with a new energy cell mid sole material for improved cushioning and comfort. Equip with GORE-TEX® warerproof technology. An all purposes trekking shoe especially design to tackle undulating terrains.

I had become addicted to trail running of late, there is just no words to describe how exhilarating it actually feels running and leaping off across puddles and mud on uneven undulating terrain. It somehow feels like I’m one with nature racing not against with time but the elements. Rocky roads, muddy puddles, slippery down slopes and littered broken branches and leaves are just some of the obstacles every trail runner will encounter when running in these unforgiving, unpredictable nature trails.

As exhilarating as it may seen, one should always be prepared before going to battle.  Running in your normal trainers in these conditions would not provide you the support you need to overcome running in these harsh and demanding conditions. Salomon had recently release their new trail running shoe – Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX.

The Salomon XA Pro 3D ultra GTX  is a trail running shoe design for the grueling adventure races and rocky uneven off trail runs. It’s fabric is equip with GORE-TEX® waterproof and breathable membrane technology that help keep your feet dry. This means that you can just concentrate on the run, dashing across puddles of water or mud and not worry about your feet being getting wet as the GTX technology will keep you feet dry and comfortable no matter what’s the conditions.

GoreTex Technology

Like the other shoe in the Salomon trail running shoe line, this awesome shoe is equip with the Kevlar Quicklace system which is a one-pull tightening lace system that quickly provide good stability, support and ensures a secure and customized fit. The lace pockets on it’s tongue store laces safely out of the way.

Unlike the other trail shoe in the market the XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX meet the needs of the trail runner. It is equip with the triple density EVA mid-soles that delivers enhanced durability and cushioning for all-day comfort during run , while the 3D Advance Chassis and energy cell outsole protect, stablize and spread weight across a wide low platform, at the same providing pronation support and forefoot protection.

Your feet will feel protected always as the XA Pro 3D ultra GTX is equip with a mud guard, protective toe cap and a gusted tongue that will keep debris out and protect feet when running on the uneven, unpredictable terrain against the element.

As an Avid trail runner and an outdoor instructor, I was able to put the shoe to the test. I personally enjoyed the XA Pro 3D Ultra as it provide protection for my feet when I’m conducting my regular trail hikes. I am able to walk/ run across puddles and mud without worrying about my feet getting wet  or even worry that sands and other debris getting into the shoe. Running with the XA Pro 3D ultra is exhilarating as it feels like driving a hummer in the woods, build for the harsh condition use for snow and desert, compare to our local terrain it’s an overkill for the superior Countragrip outsole  which provides excellent tractions and grip regardless the terrain.

I had worn the XA Pro 3D ultra often especially when running on trails and beach. I recently worn them for the Tour D’Trail in September in Mac Ritchie Reservoir and the recent New Balance Real Run in Changi Exhibition Centre back in October.

My experience running with in them has been good generally, it provides good protection, stability and support when running in uneven terrain despite being a slightly heavy (403g). Running on trail and sand is a breeze but however I personally feel that running on hard road surfaces with them tend to be a little restricting due to it’s slightly heavier and thicker sole that provide a lacks of flexibility.

Overall this an awesome shoe for anyone who is  going or transitioning into trail running as there is nothing better than a good pair of waterproof excellent gripping sole with good arch support trail shoes to help one complete the unpredictable trail race with ease. I can’t wait to run with it again for the Salomon X-trail run 12k at Mac Ritchie on 14 November.

The Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX is available in Singapore at all World Of Sports Store.

Fun Fact

  • Available in Male and Female Version
  • A non GORE-TEX® version,  Salomon XA Pro 3D ultra is still available.

Cheers! (:

  1. thanks for your review, this is exactly the shoes I wore during the Salomon x-trail at McRithchie last Nov.14. It was my first time to join the fun in running the trail, and this is also my first ever trail running shoes. Thanks to this XA Pro 3D Ultra shoes that gives me the best comfort and secured my feet throughout the trail without any injury at all…we beat the rocks, the hilly slopes and muddy sands along each trail with Salomon’s best running shoes at all! More power and I’m looking forward for more shoe-wing experience with Salomon’s technology shoe.

  2. Hey, nice review here. I’m looking into trail running and planning on getting my first trail shoes. Looking at Salomon crossmax, Slab, Speedcross and this XA Pro #D Ultra GTX that you reviewed. However, the info seems to be too much to digest. Any advise on which shoes you recommend from a newbie to trails?

    Thanks! 🙂

    • XT-Wings will be great for the beginner trail runners. You may want to try the XT-Wings 2 if you’re into Salomon shoes like I am. If not there are other brands like Montrail, NorthFace, Adidas or even Columbia that will meet your needs, Check out some of my Columbia trail running shoe review.
